Welcome

Adult Education - Sunday Forum
A wide range of adult education programs are offered on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM (between the two services) in the Rector's office.

On September 21, the Sunday Morning Forum program will begin. The forums will offer a variety of series that link faith and everyday life, including discussion of Bishop Tom Shaw’s new book, Conversations with Scripture. For more information, please speak to Christine Whittaker.

COMPANIONS IN CHRIST
This small group will read and talk about prayer and have quiet time to practice different prayer methods. It meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM (A new session starting in late September/early October and a retreat day to be planned). For more information, talk to Nan Malone or Kevin Murray.

Adult Choir
Under the direction of St. Michael's Choir Director, Allyn Phelps, the Choir sings a variety of classical and contemporary music at the Ten O'Clock Service.

Preparation each week begins on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM in the upstairs Kiely Choir Room, and resumes on Sunday morning at Nine O’Clock AM prior to the start of the Ten O’Clock Service.

Anthems are sung in unison or parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass). Hymns often include descants taken by the high sopranos. Availability of singers can affect the choice of anthems. If you enjoy a full sound each Sunday, please come and join us.

During the Choir Summer Schedule of July and August, volunteer soloists or ensembles from the choir participate in the Nine O’Clock Services. They rehearse as schedules allow.

Book Club
Several times a year, parishioners gather to discuss a book everyone has read. Everyone is welcome to offer suggestions and join in the discussions.

Current Book Club Selection
Pick up a copy of St. Michael’s Book Club’s next selection for your summer reading, which we’ll meet to discuss in September: The Language of God, by Francis Collins. This book combines a personal account of Collins's faith and experiences as a genetics researcher (he once headed the Human Genome Project) with discussions of more general topics of science and spirituality, especially centering around evolution. Collins insists that "science is not threatened by God; it is enhanced" and "God is most certainly not threatened by science; He made it all possible." Collins's credibility as a scientist and his sincerity as a believer make for an engaging combination, especially for those who, like him, resist being forced to choose between science and God.

For more information, please speak to Susan Plume or Christine Whittaker.

Book Sale
On the first Sunday of every other month we have a used book sale after the 8 and 10 o'clock services. Parishioners donate books (soft covered books in good condition are preferred). There is a drop off box in the Narthex. Proceeds go to The Discretionary Fund. If you would like to help in any way or would just like to learn more please see Anke Geurtsen.

Coffee Hour
Every Sunday, people gather for Coffee Hour in Eva's Room following each service and enjoy the chance to greet old and new friends. St. Michael's parishioners always enjoy the chance to eat and have fun together. There is a sign up sheet outside the office if you are interested in hosting this event one Sunday.

Family Night
On selected nights parishioners are invited to gather for coffee and dessert, followed by entertainment for the children and a discussion group for adults on family issues. Topics have included talking to children about death and recently a workshop on learning styles.
