Altar GuildThe Altar Guild is a particular type of lay ministry with roots reaching back all the way to the Last Supper. As it describes in The Complete Training Course for Altar Guilds (Morehouse Publishing, 2000), someone had to clean the room and prepare the meal for Jesus and his disciples; and someone had to clean up the room and do the dishes after everyone else moved on to the Garden of Gethsemane. Members of the Altar Guild are that “someone”. Of course, preparing the Eucharist is not the only thing the Altar Guild does. Christmas and Easter are especially exciting for those who like to decorate, because the Altar Guild takes charge of preparing the church for those important times of the year. All this is accomplished by a dedicated group of members.
There are no requirements in terms of time commitment, members can help out as often and to whatever extent they like. Our primary and most important task is to make St. Michael’s a beautiful place to worship. If you wish to find out more, please contact Camilla King.
